Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island DLC Review This DLC explores the main character's ori-Jins. Yuna stays behind to help the peasant settlement while Jin prepares for his journey ahead by talking to a boat captain by the shore that will take him to Iki. Jin speaks to her about what happened, telling her that his father died on Iki before deciding to return there to investigate the Eagle Tribe's presence. ![]() Jin then remembers the childhood memory of his father's death. He speaks to a surviving shaman afterward, who tells him the Eagle will lead her Eagle Tribe to Tsushima's shores from Iki island before dying. Jin fights off the Mongols, who have their combat abiltiies enhanced by the shamans. A group of Mongol soldiers then appear, led by a shaman who declares to Jin that the "Eagle" is calling out for him before starting a shamanic chant. An investigation of a Mongol yurt nearby indicates to Jin that a previously unidentified tribe of Mongols were involved with whatever happened. You will only be able to fast travel back to Tsushima after completing The Blessing of Death mission at the end of the DLC main story.Īt an unknown time during or after the invasion of Tsushima, Jin Sakai hears about disturbing events happening at a small settlement named Drowned Man's Shore located in the southern Toyotama region and decides to investigate.Īfter arriving, Jin finds the peasants in the whole settlement have been driven into insanity by an unknown force. This quest serves as a partial "point of no return,” in that you will have to stay on Iki until finishing the DLC's main story, If there are any other quests, upgrades, or purchases on Tsushima you wish to complete, it is best to do so before traveling to the island. What's obvious, though, is that the trend has blown up over the last couple years, and many people are trying to cash in on it.Īn overwhelming majority of Guo Feng fans are Gen Z-ers, according to research by Beijing Youth Daily. Many, however, see the roots of the trend in popular period TV dramas such as The Story of Yanxi Palace or wuxia novels, a genre that combines fantasy and martial arts (think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). Some cite the influence of Japanese and Korean traditional garb wearers, while others see the impact of anime-inspired cosplay beloved by Bilibili users. This might be why some scholars like Kevin Carrico, a senior research fellow in Chinese studies at Melbourne's Monash University, have argued that the hanfu wave has elements promoting Han cultural dominance at the expense of other ethnic groups.īilibili's own report on the trend acknowledges Guo Feng's "strong cultural and ideological undertones." But even within China, opinions on the trend are divided, with many seeing it as simple fun. At the same time, the country has seen a resurgence of schools inspired by Confucianism. The Chinese government and President Xi Jinping have made the "great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" and the building of "cultural self-confidence" a key goal to be achieved with more patriotic education. This explosion in popularity isn't accidental. One Guo Feng star named Nanzhi, who explains how to dress up in traditional costumes, has 1.5 million followers. The trend has also been big on Douyin, China's version of TikTok, where it has generated dozens of related hashtags. If you have an older TV or a budget 4K model, there's one obvious method of improving your TV's upscaling: Buy a better television. In this case, even using TVs that date back to 2015, the 1080p upscale to 4K is better than the 1080p image. Look at that specific spot in both images, and the roofs in the buildings immediately adjacent. See the house with a brown roof near the center of the image, with three windows facing approximately south-southwest and a fourth pointed east? (All directional cues based on north being "up", not the direction of the sunlight). If you have trouble seeing a difference between the two images, open both of them in a new tab and focus your eyes near the center of the image. The first image below is from a 4K set displaying 1080p in upscaled 4K, while the second is native 1080p. How does all this look with real content? A 2017 Rtings article can help (Opens in a new window) answer that question. Some modern TVs have sophisticated sharpening algorithms to reverse the blur created by upscaling and interpolation algorithms good enough to almost match the precision of a native 4K signal. As the amount of available horsepower in televisions has improved, the quality and sophistication of their integrated upscalers have grown as well. The native 4K image resolves into distinctly different colors than the 1080p image in R1C2 (That's 1st row, 2nd column), R1C3, and R8C8. ![]() If you're having trouble seeing the difference between the 1080p upscale and the native 4K, look at the left-side blocks in the very first row and the right-side blocks in the very last row. In the image above, you can see how the upscaled 4K is much more nuanced than the simple 1:4 mapping in the second grid from the left. How well this works depends on the type of content being upscaled. They also use video processing techniques to extrapolate what details ought to be present in the scene. This simple resizing is typically done by taking each individual 1080p pixel and creating four pixels out of it (remember, 4K is four times the pixels of 1080p).īut many TVs and Blu-ray players do more than just perform a simple 1:4 mapping. Without this functionality, a 1080p signal would take up just a fraction of a 4K television's display. The most basic function of a video scaler is to take whatever image it receives - 480i, 720p, 1080p - and stretch it across the entire screen. Generally speaking, a good TV upscaler is considered to be as good or better than a GPU. ![]() If you have a UHD Blu-ray player paired with an older or lower-quality 1080p or 4K TV, you might even get better results by running all video signals through the Blu-ray player rather than the television. Manufacturers rarely disclose their upscaling hardware choices, but higher-end TVs (Opens in a new window) should have improved upscaling capabilities. In some cases, you might be better off using a GPU to drive a picture than relying on the TV's native rescaling capability, while other TVs have excellent upscalers. Keyword: "should." Video scalar quality in TVs can vary widely between different product families. This upscaled image will not be identical to a native 4K signal, but it should offer a better picture than what was previously available on your 720p or 1080p television. ![]() Upscaling a 1080p image into 4K means taking an image originally encoded in 1920x1080 and algorithmically transforming it into what a higher-resolution version of the same image ought to look like. There is a difference between upscaling and what we call native resolution. Some AI upscaling approaches work in real-time and some do not. The word “upscale” generically means “to improve the value or quality of something.” In the video and PC space, it’s almost always a reference to increasing the effective resolution of a piece of content. ![]() Upscaling technology is now built into a variety of consumer devices you can purchase and there are software packages available for video editing as well. In addition to invalidating several decades worth of nerd complaints about how looking at the screen and saying "Enhance" does absolutely nothing, it's now possible to upscale video dramatically and improve overall quality in the process. Over the last five years, video and image upscaling - the process of turning a lower-resolution video or photo into a higher-resolution image - has gone from the realm of research papers and tech demos to commercial products. ![]() ![]() ![]() More broadly, your options can be split into these four types: There are so many different tools at your disposal when it comes to trying out time blocking. So you can't say Konami has made the wrong decision. He told me with enormous sadness that for every copy of PES they sold, there would be fifty FIFAs. As we were both football fans the PES/FIFA thing came up and he was a PES-liker. Around the time of FIFA 11 or 12 I interviewed the manager of a local games store about other subjects. ![]() ![]() You could see FIFA slowly asphyxiating PES over the last decade. Once PES wasn't objectively the better game, it moved from being a small-but-healthy competitor to an also-ran. Modern FIFA is excellent, has been since roughly FIFA 10, and is one of the industry's commercial juggernauts. And when PES started to experience its own wobbles, FIFA was getting its house in order. PES always had an uphill challenge with FIFA though, and even when EA's games weren't all that good the branding ensured they still sold. Pro Evo 3 will always be the best football game, simply because its cover art featured the bug-eyed and terrifying Italian referee Pierluigi Collina rather than some fancypants Real Madrid striker. Over the next decade the series truly blossomed as Pro Evolution Soccer, with a particular golden age on PS2 (Pro Evolution Soccer 3 is a 10/10 and that's a fact) that coincided with EA and FIFA losing its way. In the late 90s, ISS and particularly ISS Deluxe were simply the best, and had enormous character in their unofficial takes on the footballing greats: I'll never forget those pixel-art recreations of Roberto Baggio ('Galfano'!) and Fabrizio Ravanelli, nor the gorgeous feel and pace of those games. The decline of PES or Pro Evo has been so tough to watch. I hope eFootball works out for Konami, and I hope it's fantastic. You will, however, be able to customise and share teams as PES has always allowed. There's also what looks like a battle pass called a match pass, but no mention of series features like M圜lub (PES's FIFA Ultimate Team) or the career mode yet. The roadmap shows there'll be 9 clubs to play as in exhibition matches, with other modes arriving later and presumably as paid-for DLC. The platform approach means eFootball will just be constantly updated rather than having new versions, with larger updates happening simultaneously with the start of major football seasons and tournaments.Īt launch, however, eFootball looks like it'll be a little sparse. Be sure to submit your feedback via this survey for 25,000 GP to use in eFootball PES 2021 SEASON UPDATE’s m圜lub mode and remember that this is just a work-in-progress so far.Notable is that Konami has abandoned its own in-house FOX engine for eFootball, which is clearly capable of producing magnificent games but feels like it's been somewhat under-utilised.
